  • It’s easy to become a rugby referee and it comes with a shiny whistle!
But it also comes with a huge amount of respect and appreciation.

  • Click the button below to see the World Rugby Laws of Rugby Union. On this site, you can read the laws, watch video examples and animations to build your understanding of how the laws are applied on the field of play, and take a self-test exam to check your knowledge.

  • If you have played rugby in the past, you’ll find refereeing both challenging and rewarding. It will keep you fit and involved with the game. If you are new to the game, a refereeing course will give you all the information you need. You can referee and play for a team. Or, as a parent, you can help out by refereeing matches on a Sunday, rather than just standing on the touchline. You can take a course for refereeing children, which takes three hours, or a course for refereeing the 15-a-side game, which will give you confidence and competence and takes 12 hours.
